Challenge:
Managing natural disasters such as floods and wildfires requires advanced tools to interpret and predict complex phenomena in real time. The main challenge is developing solutions capable of integrating and processing large volumes of heterogeneous data to produce up-to-date semantic maps and reliable forecasts of event evolution.

Approach:
Heterogeneous data sources related to extreme events—such as intelligent Edge AI sensors, satellite imagery, and geosocial content (text, images, videos)—can contribute significantly to advanced emergency management. The TEMA project develops cutting-edge technologies for real-time semantic extraction from multiple data modalities and sources, dynamic and semantically annotated mapping of the territory, forecasting the evolution of the phenomenon, and recommending automatic intervention responses.
Solution :
TEMA develops automated tools for accurate semantic mapping and near-real-time forecasting of NDM-related phenomena. The project's primary beneficiaries are Civil Protection Agencies and First Responders. Because the catastrophic events addressed by TEMA affect the entire European territory, the research necessarily has a transnational dimension, fostering interoperability between EU countries and regions. The NDM-as-a-Service functionality developed within the project further strengthens this interoperability. ENG is responsible for the architectural design and leads the integration and validation of the technological solution, as well as providing the project's cloud infrastructure.
